In the fall of 2002, I needed to travel more than 150 miles along a little-known river in a remote part of the Ecuadorian rainforest. I approached several guides, but only one, Cary Kanoy of Core Expeditions, was willing to take on the challenge. The two-week trek, in which we traveled by dugout canoe, went off without a hitch. It was memorable in all the ways I could have hoped, and most amazing of all, even in the deepest recesses of the jungle, we ate well every night.

Perhaps most impressive is Cary's ownership of each trip. He personally does his best to make sure that everybody is enjoying their day. Another great attribute is Cary's wide range of skills. One day he was leading our student on a sea kayak trip around the Galapagos Islands. A few days later he was trekking with our students up to the base camp of Ecuador's famous Cotopaxi volcano. Any group would be fortunate to work with Cary and Core Expeditions. They are very professional and personable and go out of their way to cater each trip to individual group needs.
