Offer your students outdoor education and leadership programs to build "life skills". Programs combine team building or new group forming activities with adventure and hard skills to encourage students to work together and make decisions, and to examine how each person's abilities impact the team. Your students will come away with a renewed sense of group process and appreciation for its individuals. These programs are geared for learning through "play". We remember best the skills we gain while we are having "fun". These programs can be used for both students and staff.

Backpacking Expeditions: These 2 to 4 day programs offer wilderness environments as the classroom. Daily living is basic. Teams participate in a number of activities from orienteering to stream crossings and Tyrollean traverses. When we confront our minimal needs for existence (i.e., water, food, shelter, warmth) we see more clearly the common strands among group members and the need for teamwork. And, of course, we will take time to enjoy the beauty and refreshment that the Pisgah National Forest has to offer.

Llama Trekking Expeditions: Llamas are our porters on these 2 to 4 day excursions, creating a more catered version of our backpacking expedition. However, expect the same action and team challenges that are stock on our expeditions. Teams live and work together 24 hours a day, rain or shine, continually facing new challenges. Expect to have your comfort zones pushed, and your group exposed to the cycle of change as we take monitored risks moving through the backcountry of Western North Carolina.

Mountain Challenge (Highly Recommended): Throw your group into a physically demanding environment where needs encompass temperature control, sleep, food and cooperation.  Develop your group’s communication patterns and styles, identify personal strengths and challenges, learn about the roles you play and how they change in different situations, and work on backcountry living skills all in a supportive yet dynamic setting.
Designed after principles standardized by the outdoor industry’s leading programs and authorities, the Mountain Challenge offers a dynamic backcountry program designed to enhance teamwork and community development through its activities and experiences.  Courses range in length from 2-4 days, and are custom-tailored to each group’s unique needs and goals.

Wilderness First Aid and CPR: Be prepared to handle medical emergencies in unexpected situations. Learn about prevention, awareness, and treatment for injuries that are common.
