The Relief Medic Ecuador program runs twice each year, in June and August. We meet in Quito, Ecuador. The trip program includes 3 days of training and then we head off to the highlands in the Andes Mountains for clinical time in small under-served villages. These rural medical trips vary from 12 to 16 days in length. The price includes basic lodging/camping, meals, public or private transport. Limited additional time for adventure travel, sight-seeing, and/or alpine hot springs is built into the itinerary.
Day 1: Arrive in Quito. Met at airport and escorted to accommodations. Day 2: Transport to Riobamba. Travel will take up most of the day. Overnight in Riobamba. Day 3-5: Medical instruction and training provided by Landmark Learning Instructor. Day 6-7 Clinic day at outreach site in Chimborazo province.. Day 8 - Rest day. Free day. (The rest day may be on Day 9 depending on how the clinics are set up. On a free Day, lunch is on your own. Day 9-11: Clinic Day Day 12: Rest Day. Organized tourist activity. Return to Quito. Day 13: Transfer Out. (Some may choose to continue traveling in Ecuador or Galapagos) - Ask us about trip extensions.
Cost includes: Instruction/training, medical supervision by doctor, logistics guide, medications and medical equipment needed for clinics, CEMOPLAF clinic staff to set up outreach, donation to CEMOPLAF for their services, all lodging, meals, transportation, airport transfer
Does not include: Lunch on free day, travel insurance, personal expenses, airport tax ($40.80), cost of activities not included in the itinerary, travel extensions
Prerequisites: - Minimum age 18 years, hold valid passport - Must be current WFR (Wilderness First Responder) or WEMT (Wilderness EMT) from WMI of NOLS or WMA and hold appropriate CPR certification for your level of training) - Proof of vaccinations: Polio, DPT/PPD, MMR, Hepatitis A and B (at least begun), Tetanus at least within last 10 years, negative TB test (within last 6 months), and other vaccinations that may be required in certain clinical areas.
